CAF Invites Bids for 2028 Africa Cup of Nations Hosting

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially opened the bidding process for the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Ethiopia, Morocco, Botswana, and South Africa have emerged as the first contenders to host Africa's premier football tournament.

The bid exercise will also cover the 2032 and 2036 editions of AFCON, providing interested countries an opportunity to compete for hosting rights over the next decade. The deadline for bid submissions is set for February 2026.

Ethiopia aims to host the tournament independently, while Morocco seeks to leverage its experience from hosting several international football events. Botswana and South Africa are pursuing a joint bid to showcase regional cooperation and utilize combined sports infrastructure.

CAF will evaluate the bids based on various criteria, including stadium infrastructure, training facilities, accommodation capacity, transport systems, security arrangements, and overall organizational capability. A comprehensive inspection visit will be conducted before the final decision is made.
