CAF President Backs Morocco's AFCON 2025 Victory Amid Appeal

Patrice Motsepe, the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has publicly backed Morocco's victory in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 final after the CAF appeal board overturned Senegal's appeal. The board ruled that Senegal forfeited the match due to a player protest during stoppage time, which led to a controversial penalty awarded to Morocco following a VAR review.

The final, held in January, ended with Morocco winning 1-0 after extra time. However, a disciplinary review deemed Senegal's actions serious enough to nullify the result, awarding Morocco a 3-0 victory.

Motsepe highlighted the incident's damaging effects on the credibility of African football and emphasized the importance of integrity and respect in the sport. He acknowledged Senegal's right to appeal further and reiterated CAF's commitment to fair and impartial decision-making in football governance.
