CAF President Motsepe Addresses Morocco's AFCON 2025 Controversy

Patrice Motsepe, the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), addressed the controversy regarding Morocco's award of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title after Senegal forfeited the final match. Motsepe expressed disappointment over the disruption of the final, which he noted undermined years of work to strengthen integrity and trust in African football.

He highlighted that Senegal's government condemned the ruling as "grossly illegal" and "profoundly unjust," and they plan to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Motsepe acknowledged the existing suspicion and distrust surrounding CAF's decisions and defended the independence of the organization’s judicial body.

He emphasized that all 54 CAF member nations have the right to pursue appeals, including through the Court of Arbitration for Sport, assuring that no country would be treated favorably. He reaffirmed CAF's commitment to fairness and integrity to rebuild confidence among fans and stakeholders in African football.
