CAF President Praises Africa's Historic World Cup 2026 Performance

Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), commended the performances of Africa’s national teams at the FIFA World Cup 2026, labeling their campaign a historic achievement.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Motsepe highlighted that ten African nations participated, with nine advancing from the group stage to the Round of 32, marking the highest qualification rate for African teams in World Cup history. The teams included Algeria, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, and Tunisia.

He noted that Africa represented 20.8% of the tournament's teams but contributed 28.1% of those reaching the knockout stage. Morocco's quarter-final achievement and Egypt's Round of 16 advancement were specifically praised.

Motsepe announced that CAF would hold a conference with national team coaches, technical staff, and football experts to review performances and develop recommendations for the 2030 World Cup. He reaffirmed CAF's commitment to investing in football development across the continent.
