Motsepe Endorsed for FIFA Presidency by South Africa's Minister

Patrice Motsepe, the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) since 2021, has received strong backing to become the first African president of FIFA when Gianni Infantino's term concludes. South Africa’s Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, publicly endorsed Motsepe, calling him “Africa’s favoured candidate” for the position.

McKenzie stated that there would be unanimous support for Motsepe to succeed Infantino, who is expected to run for one last term until 2031. Although Motsepe has not indicated any desire to pursue the FIFA presidency, his endorsement reflects the substantial support he has garnered from the African football community.

Under his leadership, Motsepe has implemented significant reforms in governance, finance, and commercial development in African football, which has historically faced corruption issues. Africa, with its 54 football confederations, holds considerable influence in FIFA elections, positioning Motsepe as a prominent figure in future discussions regarding FIFA leadership.
