CAF to Host AFCON Every Four Years Starting 2027, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda to Stage

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Patrice Motsepe, revealed that the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will now be organized every four years, with the 2027 edition set to be hosted by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda. This decision is part of broader reforms to synchronize with the global football calendar and introduce new competitions to boost revenue.

The move comes in response to challenges faced by the tournament due to clashes with European club seasons. Additionally, CAF plans to introduce the FIFA Club World Cup in 2029, with the first African Nations League offering prize money.

Morocco, the host of the ongoing AFCON, has previously co-hosted the tournament in 2012 with Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
