Calls for INEC Chairman's Resignation Deemed Premature

Oluwafemi, a public affairs analyst, has stated that the calls for the resignation of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, are premature.

He urged that any demands for resignation should follow due process as outlined by Nigerian law, which clearly defines the procedures for the removal of the INEC chairman. Oluwafemi emphasized that grievances should be subjected to judicial scrutiny rather than being driven by media campaigns or public pressure.

He cautioned against inflammatory rhetoric that could heighten political tension and undermine trust in institutions. Furthermore, he called on political actors, socio-religious groups, and the media to exercise restraint and promote responsible discourse, rather than targeting individuals without following the constitutional process.

This statement comes amidst recent pressures from groups such as the African Democratic Congress and the Supreme Council for Shari'ah in Nigeria, which he believes could set a dangerous precedent for leadership changes outside constitutional procedures.
