Early Detection Crucial in Cancer Treatment, Says Doctor

Dr. Kehind Ololad, the Director of Jacaranda Cancer Centre in Abeokuta, stated that cancer should not be viewed as a spiritual attack but as a medical condition that necessitates early detection for successful treatment.

He made these remarks on Thursday during a visit to the Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta, led by Dr. Adetokunbo Vaughan, the chairman of the Medical Dental Consult Association Nigeria.

Ololad lamented the misconception that cancer is a spiritual issue, which often leads to late presentations of cases. He stressed the importance of recognizing early signs, such as lumps or unusual weight loss, and seeking medical evaluation promptly.

The Jacaranda Cancer Centre manages approximately 300 patients annually and provides chemotherapy and community-based interventions, including free cancer screenings as part of its corporate social responsibility. Ololad urged Nigerians to prioritize routine screenings to improve survival rates and emphasized the need for better infrastructure and government support in cancer care.
