Sowore Intensifies Political Campaign Amid Legal Challenges

Omoyele Sowore, a prominent activist and perennial presidential candidate, is intensifying his political activities as he prepares for his third presidential run, following previous attempts in 2019 and 2023. In June, he was briefly imprisoned at Kuje prison after a court ruling by Judge Muhammad Umar related to a cybercrime case where he was accused of calling President Tinubu a “criminal.” Sowore was released after protests from his supporters.

His legal team has since sought to question the director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS) regarding their demand for a retraction of his online posts against the president. Recent developments indicate that the DSS may be reconsidering the prosecution of Sowore.

Known for his confrontational style, Sowore targets political opponents, recently labeling Abubakar Atiku as a "spent force" and criticizing the recycling of political elites in Nigeria.
