Sowore Declares Presidential Ambition for 2027 Elections

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), announced his ambition to become Nigeria's President following the 2027 general election. His declaration came in response to the Department of State Services (DSS) seeking an adjournment of a cybercrime case against him until after the elections.

The DSS, represented by counsel Akinlolu Kehinde, stated that the adjournment would enable Sowore to engage fully in the electoral process. Sowore asserted that post-election, he would no longer be involved with the case, predicting that President Bola Tinubu and DSS Director-General Tosin Ajayi would no longer hold their positions.

He characterized the charges against him as politically motivated and expressed confidence that the political persecution would cease after the election. The DSS's case against Sowore originated from social media posts in August 2025, where he labeled Tinubu a "criminal." The adjournment request is set to be presented to the Federal High Court when it resumes on September 14, 2026.
