Catholic Church Enhances Electoral Credibility in Taraba

The Catholic Diocese of Jalingo has initiated a program aimed at strengthening the electoral process in Taraba State in preparation for the 2027 general elections. This initiative was unveiled during the church's 22nd biennial general assembly held in Jalingo, where various clerics, political leaders, and stakeholders gathered to discuss the theme of church-state partnership for credible elections.

Bishop Charles Hammawa expressed concerns over the troubling patterns of electoral irregularities in Nigeria, which undermine governance and social stability. He proposed a partnership between the church and the state to promote peace and coexistence while clarifying that the church would not engage in partisan politics.

Rev. Cletu Gotan, Vicar General of the Archdiocese, called for intensified voter education and urged the youth to resist being manipulated for violence.

The event was attended by dignitaries, including former governor Jolly Nyam and Agbu Kefa, Secretary to the State Government, who pledged the state government's commitment to free and fair elections.
