CBN Wins NES Distinguished Organisation Award for Reforms

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was awarded the Nigerian Economic Society’s (NES) Distinguished Organisation Award for its significant institutional reforms and contributions to Nigeria’s macroeconomic stability and economic development. The award was presented during the 67th Annual Conference of the NES, held in Abuja from September 7 to 10, 2026.

Dr. Victor Oboh, the Director of the Monetary Policy Department at the CBN, accepted the award on behalf of the bank's governor, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso. The recognition comes as the CBN has implemented various reforms over the past three years, including changes in the foreign exchange market, the clearance of foreign exchange obligations, and the cessation of Ways and Means financing to the federal government.

These reforms have reportedly improved key macroeconomic indicators, such as easing inflation, strengthening external reserves, and stabilizing the foreign exchange market. The CBN's reform efforts have also led to its recent recognition as Global Central Bank of the Year.
