CBN Allows Use of Expired NAFDAC Licenses for Imports Until Feb 28

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has approved a temporary window allowing importers to utilize expired licenses issued by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) until February 28, 2026. This decision aims to address disruptions caused by ongoing system transitions in Nigeria's trade processes.

The circular, dated January 26, 2026, authorizes dealer banks like ADB to continue processing Form M applications using NAFDAC licenses that expired on December 31, 2025. The CBN's Director of Trade Exchange, Aliyu M.

Ashiru, emphasized that this measure is time-bound and warned that it will automatically lapse after February 28, 2026. The move is intended to facilitate trade transactions and ensure the seamless integration of NAFDAC's systems into Nigeria's single-window Form M platform, which plays a crucial role in import control and trade data integration.

Additionally, the Nigeria Customs Service has commenced implementing procedures to grant safe passage for temporarily imported transit vehicles.
