WAEC Calls for Computer-Based Testing to Combat Exam Malpractice

Timothy Manga, an official from the West African Examination Council (WAEC) in Makurdi, has called for the implementation of strict computer-based testing to address the issue of examination malpractice, particularly in centres known as "miracle centres." In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), he expressed growing concerns regarding allegations of such centres in Benue, although no official confirmation exists. Manga emphasized that these centres threaten the integrity of the education system, advocating for an examination process that values knowledge and preparation over cheating.

He stated that WAEC is vigilant and will investigate any credible reports of miracle centres. Additionally, Mrs.

Rebecca Ezekiel, a teacher at NKST Secondary School, suggested that independent examination centres could enhance control over examination conditions. Mr.

Jude Odeh, a school proprietor in Otukpo LGA, acknowledged hearing allegations about miracle centres but noted that the admission of final-year students does not qualify a school as such.
