NECO Exam Malpractice: Alausa Reveals Alarming Leaks

Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa has raised concerns about the rampant examination malpractice in Nigeria, particularly regarding the National Examinations Council (NECO). He disclosed that during the 2025 examination period, he received leaked questions from Minister of State Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, indicating a severe integrity issue within the examination system.

Alausa noted that the term "Wushishi," originally associated with Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO since July 2021, has been co-opted by those involved in examination malpractices to refer to obtaining exam questions illicitly. Alausa described the situation as both systemic and endemic, necessitating collaboration among parents, schools, teachers, and other stakeholders to combat the issue.

He emphasized that while students are often seen as the main culprits, the broader ecosystem contributes significantly to the problem. Alausa and Ahmad are commended for their efforts to address this challenge, which threatens the fairness and integrity of educational qualifications in Nigeria.
