CDD Trains Katsina Students Against Disinformation

The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) conducted a training program for secondary school students in Katsina State aimed at countering misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech. The training, which took place over two days, was part of a project designed to strengthen information literacy and promote social cohesion among students who are heavily active on social media.

CDD head of program, Mari Okp, noted that the engagement exceeded expectations with high participation levels. The training sessions were held at Government Secondary School Daddara Jibia and Government Pilot Secondary School Dutsinma in the Katsina State local government area.

The initiative, supported by Tetra Tech, focuses on building capacity for fact-checking and responsible information dissemination. Okp emphasized the importance of fostering critical assessment skills among students to combat the negative impacts of misinformation, especially during election periods.

Musa Lawal, principal of Government Secondary School Daddara Jibia, described the exercise as successful, highlighting students' understanding of the detrimental effects of misinformation.
