Kaduna State Partners to Combat Misinformation and Hate Speech

The Kaduna State Government, represented by Malam Ahm Maiyaki, is actively seeking strategic partnerships with civil society organizations to address the issues of misinformation and hate speech within the state. This initiative aims to develop collaborative strategies to curb the spread of false information, which has been identified as a key driver of conflict and social tension.

Maiyaki highlighted the importance of engaging young people in peacebuilding efforts and stressed the necessity for stronger collaboration among government institutions, particularly the Ministry of Education, to achieve intended objectives without inadvertently creating new tensions. The Kaduna State Commission warned against the careless use of language that could escalate tensions, particularly on social media, where misinformation can rapidly lead to violence.

The commission called for a united effort among government, media, and civil society organizations to tackle the growing challenges posed by fake news and hate speech, reaffirming the state government's commitment to promoting responsible communication and sustaining peace in Kaduna State.
