CDGPA Condemns NRS Secret Recruitment, Supports Probe

The Centre for Democratic Governance and Parliamentary Advocacy (CDGPA) has condemned the alleged secret recruitment by the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) and expressed support for the House of Representatives' ongoing investigation into the agency's recruitment processes. The CDGPA described the recruitment as an affront to transparency and constitutional accountability, emphasizing that federal agencies must adhere to the Federal Character principle.

The House Committee on Federal Character, led by former Deputy Speaker Hon. Idris Wase, ordered the suspension of the recruitment after concerns were raised about the NRS's compliance with constitutional provisions.

The committee criticized a waiver granted by the Federal Character Commission that allowed the NRS to proceed with the recruitment. Tensions have escalated due to the NRS Executive Chairman, Dr.

Zacch Adedeji, failing to respond to multiple invitations from the committee. Additionally, a civil society organization has filed a suit challenging the appointment of six executive directors of the NRS for alleged violations of the Federal Character principle.
