CDS Oluyede Promises Pension Increases for Retirees

The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Olufemi Oluyede, assured military retirees that they would receive consequential increases in their pensions whenever salaries and emoluments for serving personnel are adjusted. This assurance was made during an interactive engagement with military veterans from the North-East Zone in Yola, Adamawa State.

The announcement came after retired military personnel protested at the Ministry of Defence in Abuja over the lack of pension adjustments following a salary increase for active personnel announced in August, effective from September. The protest was suspended after Gen Christopher Musa (retd.), the Minister of Defence, assured the veterans that their demands would be addressed.

Oluyede emphasized that the ongoing salary review for serving personnel was comprehensive and that implementation was underway. He also mentioned initiatives to improve veterans' welfare, including access to low-interest loans through the Bank of Industry and a commitment to reserving a percentage of patronage at the new Defence Hospital for veterans.
