Retired Military Personnel Protest Pension Adjustment Delays

On Wednesday, retired military personnel protested in Abuja against the delay in implementing consequential pension adjustments that should reflect salary increases approved for serving military personnel. Security operatives, including military and police personnel, barricaded the Ministry of Defence to prevent the pensioners from gathering.

The retirees demanded that their pensions be adjusted in line with the salary increases for active military members. This protest follows previous agitations over unpaid pensions and allowances, including protests in December 2024 and January 2025.

In response, the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), represented by Permanent Secretary Mr. Richard Pheelangwah, assured that the Federal Government is committed to addressing veterans' welfare and that their concerns regarding wage and pension adjustments are receiving urgent attention. The Minister emphasized the need for calm and constructive engagement while ensuring that any adjustments to veterans' entitlements are properly computed.
