CDS Launches Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD in Kwara State

On Thursday, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, officially launched Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD in Ilorin, Kwara State, to combat terrorism and criminal gangs in the North Central region. The operation, coordinated by the 22 Brigade Sobi Military Cantonment, aims to dismantle terrorist networks and kidnapping syndicates threatening Kwara State and neighboring Niger State.

General Oluyede emphasized that the mission is intelligence-driven and involves joint operations rather than routine deployments of armed forces. He warned that forest enclaves previously exploited by criminals will no longer serve as safe havens.

The operation will include sustained clearance and stabilization efforts across vulnerable corridors. Major General Yakubu Yahaya disclosed that the operation will integrate efforts within the joint operational area.

Kwara State Governor Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq noted the strategic timing of the deployment due to rising terrorist activities. The launch ceremony was attended by various military leaders and traditional rulers, highlighting a unified national resolve to eliminate terrorism.
