Nigerian Military to Deploy Special Forces to Kwara and Niger States to Combat Terrorism

The Nigerian military, led by Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, announced plans to deploy special forces to Kwara and Niger states as part of a joint special task force under Operation Savannah Shield.

This deployment aims to flush out terrorists operating in the region. The decision was revealed during a budget defense session at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

The special forces, already deployed in Benue and Plateau states under Operation Savannah Shield, will soon be inaugurated to address security threats in Kwara and parts of Niger. Gen.

Oluyede emphasized the need to strengthen the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to consolidate security gains. He highlighted the military's success in degrading insurgent and bandit groups nationwide but stressed the importance of adequately equipping the police and civil defence, as sustaining peace requires their enhanced capabilities and wider community presence.
