Local Arms Production Vital for Nigeria's Security Strategy

During the inauguration of a lecture at the Joint Doctrine Warfare Centre (JDWC) in Abuja, Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede reaffirmed that boosting local arms production is crucial for ending terrorism in Nigeria and West Africa. He stressed that indigenous manufacturing would reduce dependence on foreign suppliers, ensuring timely access to military equipment and enhancing operational efficiency.

Oluyede outlined a new phase of military strategy focused on self-reliance and improved border security through indigenous technological advancements. He noted that these elements form the foundation of Nigeria's future defense projects and emphasized the importance of regional collaboration to address complex security threats.

He disclosed that the armed forces prioritize developing local defense products and highlighted the need for continued cooperation with neighboring countries. Oluyede also underscored the importance of synergy in joint military operations, stating that single service efforts are often insufficient for achieving desired outcomes.

He called for broader support from the Federal Executive Council and the Nigeria Governors Forum to implement these strategies.
