CDS Oluyede Warns Local Complicity Fuels Insecurity

On Wednesday, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Olufemi Oluyede addressed journalists in Maiduguri, Borno State, warning that local support for terrorist activities is exacerbating insecurity in Borno and Yobe states.

He highlighted that many perpetrators of violence are known within their communities, which complicates efforts to combat terrorism. Oluyede cited recent attacks, including one in Kukawa, where locals were found complicit.

He emphasized the military's commitment to developing technology to counter these threats. Vice President Kashim Shettima also visited victims of a recent bombing that claimed 23 lives and injured 108 in Maiduguri.

The attack was condemned by various leaders, including Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum, who described it as cowardly.

The Arewa Consultative Forum expressed deep concern over the rising violence and called for urgent measures to prevent Nigeria from sliding into anarchy.
