Nigerian Armed Forces Urged to Adopt AI for Security

On September 19, 2026, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Defence Staff, urged the Nigerian Armed Forces to leverage emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence and advanced surveillance systems, to enhance situational awareness and respond to evolving security threats. He made these remarks during the inauguration of the Nigerian Defence Academy Command Centre and three additional projects in Kaduna.

The other projects included the expanded RSM Oliver Nzalgana Parade Ground, a new 500-capacity Ashanti Battalion Cadets’ Mess, and the renovated Ribadu Auditorium. Oluyede emphasized that the military must adapt to contemporary security challenges through technological innovation to improve operational effectiveness.

He commended Maj.-Gen. Oluyemi Olatoye, the Commandant of the NDA, for the academy's commitment to infrastructure and human-capacity development. The command centre is equipped with AI-enabled surveillance technology to bolster security within the academy.

Oluyede also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for supporting the Armed Forces' development.
