Defence Minister Advocates AI Adoption for Security

On Thursday, during a colloquium organized by the Ministry of Defence in Abuja, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), the Minister of Defence, called for the increased adoption of artificial intelligence, unmanned systems, and other emerging technologies to bolster Nigeria's capacity to address evolving security threats. Musa stated that the changing nature of contemporary threats necessitates a continual reassessment of Nigeria's defense capabilities.

He identified key technologies such as AI, unmanned systems, surveillance, reconnaissance, and cyber capabilities as transformative for military operations. Musa stressed the importance of maintaining an agile and forward-looking defense architecture capable of anticipating threats and protecting Nigeria's territorial integrity.

He emphasized that investing in relevant technologies and strengthening human, doctrinal, and institutional capacities are essential for the Armed Forces to maintain operational advantages and prepare for future security challenges. Leah Katung-Babatunde, the Special Adviser to the Minister on Media, noted that the colloquium aimed to create actionable pathways and inform public policy for national resilience.
