Amnesty International Demands Charges or Release for Bodejo

Amnesty International Nigeria has urged security agencies to either formally charge Bello Bodejo, the leader of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, or release him following his arrest in Jalingo, Taraba State. Bodejo was apprehended during a visit to the office of security agencies, accompanied by Malam Umar, and was later transferred to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.

Umar linked Bodejo's arrest to his growing popularity in his constituency and accused state officials of orchestrating the arrest. Isa Sanusi, the Executive Director of Amnesty International Nigeria, emphasized that every individual has the right to participate freely in social and political affairs and cautioned against arbitrary arrests that undermine citizens' rights.

Sanusi also highlighted that the EFCC should uphold due process and not be used as a tool for political purposes. Bodejo's arrest occurred on May 7, 2026, and has raised concerns about the potential abuse of power by Nigeria's security agencies.
