Nigerian Coach Eric Chelle Aims to Be First African to Lead Real Madrid

Eric Chelle, the 48-year-old head coach of the Nigerian national football team, expressed his ambition to become the first African coach of Real Madrid. Chelle, a Franco-Malian, took over the Super Eagles in January 2025 and led them to the AFCON 2025, where they finished third.

Despite a strong performance, Nigeria lost in the playoffs to DR Congo. Chelle's coaching career began with French amateur side Group Sportif Consolat in 2014, and he later coached Mali from 2022 to 2024.

During the AFCON 2025, there were reports of tension between Nigerian players Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, with Osimhen allegedly upset over Lookman's playing style. Chelle managed the situation well, guiding the team to success.

Chelle's ultimate goal is to coach Real Madrid, a club with a rich history of success in European football.
