Chemists Push for Green Chemistry at Nigeria Symposium

The 11th Annual Symposium of the American Chemical Society's Nigeria Chapter was held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Oyo State, where chemists advocated for the adoption of green chemistry principles and sustainable practices to drive national growth. Prof.

Ganiyat Oloyed, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, welcomed participants and highlighted Ibadan's rich academic heritage. The symposium's theme focused on exploring new pathways in chemistry to tackle pressing global issues, particularly climate change, environmental sustainability, energy security, and public health.

Stella C. Igwilo, emphasizing the pivotal role of chemistry in Nigeria's sustainable development.

The event featured keynote lectures from various experts, including Prof. Franklin Aigbirhio from the University of Cambridge and Dr.

Nevila Jana from McPherson University, discussing innovative research and interdisciplinary approaches. The symposium concluded with recommendations to strengthen research infrastructure and promote partnerships between industry and academia.
