China Showcases Advanced Robotics at World Robot Conference

The World Robot Conference, held in China from August 19 to 23, showcased over 3,000 robotic products from more than 300 exhibitors, including over 300 new product launches. Technologies demonstrated included robotic hands capable of handling industrial components and performing tasks requiring precision.

China FAW presented robotic systems that can recognize, grasp, and transport automobile components, with some systems already tested in production environments. Despite these advancements, industry observers noted significant challenges in achieving reliable performance in uncontrolled environments.

Unitree Chief Executive Wang Xingxing indicated that major advancements in robot software for unfamiliar real-world environments could take two to ten years. The conference underscored China's expanding robotics industry, with Chinese companies accounting for over 97 percent of global humanoid robot shipments in the first half of 2026, reflecting the country's growing dominance in the sector.

The event's theme focused on the rapid progress in robotic dexterity and industrial applications while addressing the ongoing challenges of making robots economically useful in real-world settings.
