Xi Jinping Visits Egypt to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Egypt for a two-day visit aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and addressing the escalating Middle East conflict. He was welcomed by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his wife, alongside a folk dance performance.

The visit comes amid economic and diplomatic challenges stemming from the ongoing Middle East war, which began after US and Israeli strikes against Iran on February 28. Xi's visit is significant as it marks his first trip to Egypt in a decade and coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt.

Discussions are expected to cover the Gaza war, Iran, and security concerns in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz. Xi expressed a desire to deepen the China-Egypt comprehensive strategic partnership, with agreements anticipated in areas such as artificial intelligence, transport, energy, and investment in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

The trade surplus between China and Egypt reached $12 billion in the first seven months of 2026.
