Nigerian Footballer Chinonso Obi Stabbed in Lithuania

Chinonso Jeremiah Obi, a 2005-born midfielder for the Lithuanian club Dainava, was stabbed shortly before the team's scheduled match against Taurag. The incident occurred on Naujoji Street, leading to serious injuries that required Obi to be taken to the hospital for treatment.

Following the attack, a suspect was detained, and a pre-trial investigation is underway. The Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) condemned the attack, highlighting their zero-tolerance stance on racism and violence in football.

LFF President Edgara Stankevičius described the incident as crossing boundaries of humanity and warned of its potential impact on the image of football. As a result of the stabbing, the match between Dainava and Taurag has been postponed, with a new date to be announced.
