Nigeria Receives $500,000 Cholera Response Kits Donation from Japan to Boost Outbreak Preparedness

Nigeria has received a donation of cholera response kits worth $500,000 from Japan to bolster the nation's preparedness and rapid outbreak response. The donation, facilitated by the World Health Organization (WHO), aims to enhance surveillance, diagnostics, and case management in high-risk states across Nigeria.

Dr. Pavel Ursu described the contribution as a direct lifesaving intervention that will help save lives and improve Nigeria's readiness to respond to cholera outbreaks.

The Japanese ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Suzuki Hideo, emphasized Japan's commitment to supporting Nigeria in reducing cholera-related deaths through early detection, containment, and protection of lives at risk.

Nigeria continues to face recurring cholera outbreaks, with 9,929 cases and 235 deaths reported across the country as of September this year. Japan's support is part of a broader investment in Nigeria's health sector, totaling $1.725 million.

The donation reflects Japan's solidarity with the Nigerian people in the fight against cholera, highlighting the importance of strengthening health systems and promoting community resilience.
