Zamfara State Reports 179 Cholera Deaths, Urges Sustained Response

Zamfara State in Nigeria has reported a cholera outbreak with 179 deaths and over 12,000 suspected cases. The fatality rate is lower than the national average, attributed to improved case management strategies and rapid response efforts.

The State Government, through Secretary Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, emphasized the need for sustained efforts by health workers to contain the disease. Despite the high number of cases, Zamfara has maintained a lower fatality rate compared to other states.

The State Epidemiologist, Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Gusau, highlighted the activation of Rapid Response Teams and Cholera Treatment Centers across 14 local government areas.

The situation remains critical, with warnings that every recorded case represents a life at risk.
