CHRN Raises Concerns Over JAMB's Non-Recognition of Akwa Ibom University of Education

The Centre for Human Rights and Humanitarian Advocacy (CHRN) expressed alarm over the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) not recognizing the Akwa Ibom University of Education, formerly known as the Akwa Ibom State College of Education. Despite being upgraded to a full-fledged university by the state government in December 2025, JAMB has not acknowledged this change in 2026 and 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) exercises.

CHRN Director, Otuekong Franklyn Isong, criticized the lack of key university structures such as a Vice-Chancellor, Governing Council, and academic brief, raising concerns about the institution's governance and transparency. The group urged urgent corrective actions to prevent further erosion of the university's reputation and called for collaboration between the administration and Governor Umo Eno.

The situation also drew caution from CHRN towards union leaders within the institution, emphasizing the need for unity to address the recognition challenges.
