CITN Calls for Support of Tax Reforms at Induction Ceremony

During the 54th induction ceremony in Abuja, Innoc Ohagwa, the President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), emphasized the need for members to support tax reforms that will be introduced in January 2026. These reforms aim to modernize Nigeria's tax system and include a new tax administration framework and harmonized tax laws.

Ohagwa highlighted the evolving tax landscape and the increased responsibilities placed on tax professionals to guide individuals and businesses amid these changes. He stressed the importance of maintaining high ethical standards and technical competence, noting that these will be crucial for public trust in the tax system.

Yemi Sanni, the Chairman of the Membership and Professional Conduct Committee, reiterated the critical role of tax practitioners in revenue mobilization and fiscal system strengthening. Afolak Oso, the Registrar and Chief Executive, outlined the mandatory training programs and compliance requirements for members, warning that failure to meet these obligations could lead to sanctions, including delisting from the register.
