Civil Society Coalition Backs DIG Ochalla Against Smear

The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity, and Justice (CCSG PSGEJ) has strongly defended Deputy Inspector General of Police Margaret Ageh Ochalla against allegations published by Sahara Reporters, which they describe as a false and malicious smear campaign. The coalition issued a statement in Abuja, asserting that the reports are part of an orchestrated effort to misinform the public and undermine the leadership of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Comrad Jame Okoronkwo, the coalition's national coordinator, emphasized their commitment to supporting reforms aimed at strengthening accountability within Nigeria's police system. The coalition noted that the timing of the allegations coincides with the upcoming 2026 National Police Week, suggesting an intention to distract from Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu's ongoing reforms.

They criticized the reliance on anonymous sources and defended Ochalla's professional trajectory, highlighting her significant role in high-level national police activities.
