Civil Society Commends Nigerian Military's Human Rights Record

Civil society actors have commended the Nigerian military for its human rights record and successes in counter-terrorism efforts during a peace development rally held on Monday in Masaka, Nasarawa State. Local community leaders and residents gathered to advocate for security and social cohesion.

Micheal Adamu, who convened the event, highlighted the importance of balancing security operations with the need to safeguard civilian lives. The military was particularly praised for neutralizing terrorist leaders and rescuing kidnapped individuals across the country, citing recent successful operations in Kubwa and Bwari that resulted in the safe recovery of several victims.

Adamu welcomed proposals for increasing soldiers' salaries, describing this development as a morale booster that would enhance operational effectiveness. He stressed the importance of human rights training within the military and called for greater investment in programs to address poverty, unemployment, and social exclusion, which often fuel violence.

The rally reflected a growing recognition of the need for collective action to address Nigeria's security challenges.
