Nigerian Medical Association Rejects Labor Unions' Claims on CONMESS Upgrade

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has dismissed claims by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) about the upgrade of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for doctors. Dr.

Mannir Bature, the Public Secretary of NMA, clarified the association's position in Gusau, Zamfara State, addressing journalists. The NMA refuted the alleged upgrade of CONMESS since 2014, stating that the claims by the labor unions were misleading and could escalate tensions in the health sector.

The NMA emphasized the need to correct long-standing distortions in the salary structure and restore CONMESS to its original approved position. The association warned against portraying preferential treatment for doctors, urging the government to prioritize workforce rationalization and strengthen frontline clinical services.

The NMA called for transparent engagement to address healthcare workers' interests and cautioned against misinformation on remuneration issues.
