FCTA Distributes 10,000 Cooking Gas Cylinders in Abuja

The "Breath Clean Air Abuja" project, initiated by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in partnership with IH Nigeria, has successfully distributed 10,000 cooking gas cylinders to vulnerable households across six area councils in the Federal Capital Territory. This initiative aims to replace traditional cooking fuels such as firewood, charcoal, and kerosene with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), thereby reducing indoor air pollution and improving public health.

Dr. Dolapo Fasaw, the champion of this project, emphasized the health risks associated with prolonged exposure to indoor smoke, particularly for women and children.

Beneficiaries of the program receive a year of free refill vouchers and health insurance coverage, ensuring continued access to clean energy. The project has been praised for its comprehensive approach, combining health care, environmental protection, and poverty reduction.

Community leaders have noted the positive impact on daily life, particularly for women who now have access to cleaner cooking fuel, which translates to greater efficiency and reduced cooking times.
