Project Breathe Clean Air Abuja Enhances Health in FCT

Project Breathe Clean Air Abuja (PBCAA) is an initiative by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in partnership with IHS Nigeria, aimed at improving public health and environmental sustainability through access to clean cooking energy. Launched in November 2025, the project has distributed 10,000 Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders and refill vouchers to households across 18 communities in the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The initiative addresses the health risks associated with traditional cooking fuels, such as firewood and kerosene, which contribute to respiratory diseases. At the grand finale on July 2, 2026, Dr.

Mariya Mahmud, the Honourable Minister of State for the FCT, represented by Hajiya Maijida Adamu Kuku, emphasized the project's goal to reduce respiratory diseases linked to indoor air pollution, particularly affecting women and children. The project also focuses on education and community engagement to ensure long-term sustainability and health benefits.
