Jigawa Governor Namadi Addresses Climate Change Challenges

Malam Umar Namadi, the Governor of Jigawa State, addressed climate change as one of the greatest development challenges facing Nigeria during the inauguration of the state's Renew Hope Initiative on Tuesday. He noted that Jigawa State, located in Nigeria's semi-arid region along the Great Green Wall corridor, is particularly susceptible to environmental challenges, including desertification, land degradation, and recurrent flooding.

The governor emphasized the need for policies and strategies that protect ecosystems, improve livelihoods, and promote sustainable economic growth. He highlighted the recent approval of Jigawa State's climate change policy, which aligns with the state's development priorities.

Governor Namadi called for active participation from citizens, especially the youth, whom he described as the future custodians of the environment. Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima, representing the First Lady of Nigeria, praised the state's commitment to environmental protection and encouraged residents to plant drought-resistant trees.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu introduced the Green Nigeria Challenge, which aims to support state efforts in tackling climate change and environmental degradation.
