Abuja Media Training Focuses on Climate and Gender Issues

The media training event held in Abuja emphasized the critical intersection of climate governance and gender inclusion, organized by Endvoca in collaboration with the Women Environment Programme. Michael Simir, Executive Director of Endvoca, highlighted the worsening impacts of climate change, including floods, heatwaves, and biodiversity loss in Nigeria.

Sam Onuigbo, a former two-time member of the House of Representatives and sponsor of Nigeria's Climate Change Act 2021, warned that climate change poses serious humanitarian and security challenges, affecting livelihoods through devastating floods and droughts. He commended the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu for climate-related reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the implementation of the Climate Smart Agriculture program.

Priscilla Mbarumun Achakpa called for stronger public engagement and collaboration among media professionals to amplify the voices of vulnerable communities affected by mercury pollution and climate change.
