CMS Grammar School Celebrates 167 Years of Excellence

CMS Grammar School, Nigeria's oldest secondary school, marked its 167th anniversary on June 6, 2023, with a celebration that included alumni, educational stakeholders, and members of the Old Grammarian Society both within and outside the country. The event featured an annual lecture and a thanksgiving service organized by the Old Grammarian Society.

Pastor Olubi Johnson delivered a keynote address titled "The Secret of Africa's Rise," stressing the importance of transforming education and supporting learning environments to drive Africa's future development. He noted that despite historical challenges such as slavery and colonial exploitation, education remains a key driver of progress.

Mr. Olalekan Ogunbanwo, president of the Old Grammarian Society, urged alumni to continue upholding the values of the distinguished school, which was founded on June 6, 1859, by Reverend Babington Macaulay.

The anniversary concluded with a renewed commitment from alumni and stakeholders to preserve the institution's heritage and promote educational excellence.
