Coalition Launches #PayTax4Wetin Campaign for Tax Reform

On Thursday, a coalition of Nigeria, international civil society organisations, and trade unions launched the #PayTax4Wetin campaign in Abuja. The coalition demands that the Federal Government ensure transparency in the implementation of new tax reforms that took effect in January 2026.

These reforms aim to enhance domestic revenue mobilisation and strengthen tax administration, including provisions for corporate income taxation and a minimum effective corporate tax rate of 15% for large multinational enterprises. The coalition stresses the importance of ensuring that multinational corporations contribute their fair share of taxes and calls for regular publication of tax revenue information by all government levels.

They advocate for the establishment of an independent Tax Ombuds Office and broader citizen participation in tax policy. The coalition also highlights the need for a practical implementation plan for taxing digital services and emphasizes that increased government revenue should lead to improved public services, addressing concerns over out-of-pocket spending by Nigerians on essential services.
