Coalition Warns US on Threat to Christians in Nigeria

A coalition of Christian organizations and rights advocates across Nigeria's 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has submitted a petition to US President Donald Trump, the US Congress, and foreign missions in Abuja. The petition warns that retaining a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket for the 2027 elections could worsen insecurity for Christians nationwide.

The petition, submitted by the Christian Youth Alliance of Nigeria (CYAN) and signed by Chairman Zariyi Madaki and Secretary Nasiru Jagaba, emphasizes the deteriorating security situation for Christians, citing the recent killing of at least 30 Christians in Naridon community, Kaduna State. The coalition argues that President Bola Tinubu's retention of the Muslim-Muslim ticket poses a significant threat to Christians, particularly in northern Nigeria, and breaks a long-standing convention of religious balance in leadership.

They also criticize the federal government's reintegration of "repentant terrorists" and express concerns over Nigeria's lobbying efforts in Washington.
