Usman Urges Coalition Parties to Join Labour Party Ahead of 2027

Nenadi Usman, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), called on political parties aiming to form a coalition for the 2027 elections to integrate their structures into the Labour Party. She emphasized that the LP is the only opposition party with a significant presence across Nigeria's 186,000 polling units.

Usman highlighted the combined strength of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) as constitutional members of the LP, positioning it to effectively challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Her statements were made in Bauchi on Tuesday during the 2026 Goodluck Jonathan Foundation Democracy Dialogue, which featured notable figures such as former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.

Usman praised Jonathan's 2015 concession of defeat as a pivotal moment for Nigerian democracy and urged politicians seeking office in 2027 to adopt a similar non-violent approach. She questioned whether they would be willing to make sacrifices for the country's welfare, as Jonathan did.
