Okereke Rejects Coalition Politics to Defeat Incumbents

Okereke, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, expressed that forming coalitions merely to defeat an incumbent does not positively serve the democratic process. He referenced the 2013 formation of the APC, noting that the opposition did not consolidate into a single candidate.

Okereke argued that any coalition, such as the proposed G100, should focus on credible policy alternatives rather than being a mere gang-up. He highlighted the significance of the 21 presidential candidates representing 21 political parties, each with its own structures.

Okereke stressed that political processes must respect constitutional rights and should not rely on undemocratic methods for political gain. He pointed out that the window for candidate withdrawal closed on August 22, 2026, making it legally impossible for any presidential candidate to withdraw now.

He concluded that the ultimate decision rests with the Nigerian voters and that political commitments must prioritize the needs of the populace.
