COAS Shaibu Urges Officers to Enhance Army Divisions

On Friday in Abuja, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), urged officers trained in strategic leadership to apply their skills to improve the newly created divisions of the Nigerian Army. This charge was delivered at the graduation ceremony for 43 participants of the Leadership and Strategic Studies Course 4/2025, conducted by the Nigerian Army Resource Centre.

The course was specifically designed to enhance the capabilities of Lieutenant Colonels of the Direct Regular Commission, equipping them for greater responsibilities. Shaibu emphasized the importance of strategically minded officers due to the Army's expansion from eight to 12 divisions, necessitating not just more personnel and equipment but also well-prepared leaders.

He encouraged the officers to utilize their training to address contemporary security challenges, including terrorism and cyber threats, and to continue their professional development. Retired Maj.-Gen. James Myam, Director-General of NARC, noted that the course is a flagship program aimed at providing high-level education to officers to tackle Nigeria's security issues.
