Nigerian Army Appoints GOCs for New Divisions

The Nigerian Army has appointed General Officers Commanding (GOCs) for four newly established divisions, following the approval of President Bola Tinubu for the creation of additional formations. The appointments were made by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, as part of a reorganization to improve command, control, and force projection.

Maj Gen Yakubu Yahaya was appointed GOC of the 9 Division in Ilorin and Commander of Operation Savannah Shield. Maj Gen Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife will lead the 10 Division in Jalingo, while Maj Gen Moses Gara heads the 5 Division in Makurdi, also serving as Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke.

Maj Gen Auwalu Mahmuda was redeployed to the 2 Division in Ibadan. Additionally, three new brigades were activated, with Brig Gen A.O.

Odubiyi leading the 11 Brigade in Gboko, Brig Gen A.M. Haruna commanding the 29 Brigade in Kainji, and Brig Gen R.M.

Aminu heading the 10 Brigade in Lafia. The new divisions will commence operations upon achieving Initial Operational Capability, with a focus on enhancing national security.
